The 7 Best Free Fitness Apps for Busy Moms

As a busy mom, I know that balancing motherhood, work, home life, friends, a family with exercise and healthy eating can be difficult, to say the least. I have gathered together 7 of the best free apps for fitness. For years I was an avid android user and have most recently switched to iPhone and all of these apps are available on both platforms.

The 7 Best Free Fitness Apps for Busy Moms

1. MyFitnessPal-

This is by far my favorite app to use. I use it to track everything in one place. My favorite feature is the food tracker. MyFitnessPal is one of the easiest-to-use calorie counter available. Search the enormous food database to log what you eat and track your exercise. It literally has almost every food you would find. You could also add your own food or meals if you know the nutritional value. It is great for tracking macros, calories, and overall nutritional values. It also syncs with a number of other fitness apps to help keep all your info in one place.

2. MapMyFitness-

Ok so there is obviously a connection between this one and MyFitnessPal that is because they are connected. There are several MapMy_____ apps including MapMyRun, MapMyWalk, MapMyRide. The MapMyFitness app is universal which is why I prefer it. I do a combination of different type of workouts and only need one app to track it all including CrossFit workouts.

3. Nike Run Club-

This is great for runners! You can track some of your PRs (personal records) and other fun tracking info. It also has the ability to analyze your run including pace, splits, and elevation depending on how you use it. I have the Apple Watch and it works great together. The app offers hundreds of workouts. There are recommendations based on your fitness goals and even video demonstrations that show you how to do each one.

4. RunKeeper-

This is another great running app. I haven't used it as much but a lot of runners use it to track their runs and total mileage. Runkeeper uses your phone's GPS to log your running pace and distance. Users can set a goal pace and the app will update you to help you stay on track with the tempo.

5. Couch to 5k-

This is a really good app to help those who are wanting to work on building up to running a 5k. I personally used this after I had my son. It literally coaches you on how to prepare for a 5k. They also have other versions for longer runs. Spend just 20 to 30 minutes, three times a week for nine weeks and you'll be ready to finish your first 5K (3.1-mile) race!

6. FitBit

This also goes for the Garmin app. I have had three different Fitbits including the scale and love the interface. It is super easy to use and track my steps, calories burned, sleep, weight and workouts. My favorite feature is connecting and competing with friends! It definitely helps keep you motivated.

7. Charity Miles-

This is less about your personal fitness and more about motivation. You can donate to charities through your workouts. Charity Miles donates $.10 for every mile biked and $.25 for every mile walked/run. Get moving and help your favorite charity in the process!

Bonus: Achievement- this app pays you to work out!! Connect it to your apps to track your workouts and collect points. Once you reach 10000 points you get $10. I have achieved it several times since activating my account. I have had several $10 collections. Check it out here.
